Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Attends Opening of ReBuild Ukraine
Sweden signalled a strengthened commitment to Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts as Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, attended the official opening of the ReBuild Ukraine 2025 expo in Warsaw on Thursday.
The event, one of Europe’s largest gatherings dedicated to Ukraine’s recovery, brings together governments, companies, investors and humanitarian organisations to mobilise resources for energy, infrastructure and social resilience. Sweden’s presence has grown steadily over the past three years, culminating in a full-scale national pavilion led jointly by Forever Sustainable and Business Sweden.
In his opening remarks, Dousa underlined both Sweden’s long-term political support and the economic opportunities tied to rebuilding a resilient, modern Ukrainian economy.
“Ukraine’s reconstruction is not just a moral obligation — it is an investment in European security and future prosperity,” Dousa said. “Swedish companies have world-leading solutions in energy, construction, digitalisation and resilience. Their engagement here is crucial, and our government will continue to back partnerships that strengthen Ukraine’s independence and accelerate its recovery.”
He highlighted the growing role of public–private cooperation, including Swedish export guarantees, financial instruments under the EU’s Ukraine Facility, and the need for international partners to scale both grants and investment.
“Reconstruction must start even while the war continues,” Dousa added. “Every repaired power station, every rebuilt bridge, every strengthened municipal service brings Ukraine one step closer to winning peace.”
The Swedish pavilion features companies and organisations specialising in renewable energy, green construction, cybersecurity, humanitarian innovation and social recovery. According to the organisers, interest from Ukrainian regional authorities and state-owned enterprises has been high, particularly in sustainable energy systems and digital infrastructure.
Dousa also met with Ukrainian officials and business leaders on the sidelines of the event, reaffirming Sweden’s commitment to long-term support through development assistance, trade partnerships and private-sector mobilisation.
ReBuild Ukraine continues through Friday, with delegations from over 30 countries attending.
